One of a kind in India, the Basilica of Bom Jesus Church in Goa is known for its exquisite baroque architecture. Built in 1594 and dedicated in 1605, this church’s building marks the start of Christianity in India. The church is situated in Bainguinim’s Old Goa, roughly ten miles from Panjim. Remains of St. Francis Xavier, a close companion of St. Ignatius Loyola who inspired him create the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), are stored in the oldest church in Goa. The remains are exhumed once every 10 years and remain in good condition in spite of being there for 400 years.
